The Eprintex, LLC copy shop is a local business. I usually copy my school textbooks there. They’re really friend and helpful. Each year, I save so much money from textbooks thanks to them. They offer many types of services from printing flyers to business cards, etc. You can check out their services at www.ePrintex.us ….the only drawback is that the shop is hard to find because the store looks like a regular house but with doors open and a sign saying “Eprintex.” They are located on 5017, 7th ave Brooklyn NY.
I emailed them my questions, and this is their response:
Item: book
Finished size: 8.5”x11”
# of pages: 20
Paper stock: 20lb. white text paper
Binding: saddle stitch
Quantity: 1
Price: $10.25 (add $1 for coil bind)
And it’s impossible to do perfect bind for 20 pages. It’s too thin.
For any other questions, you can email Vivian at vivian at eprintex.us

For my next book, I want to make a book about my travels abroad. I studied abroad last semester and I would love to have all my pictures published in a book. I want my book to contain many pictures of the places I’ve visited (France, Spain, Uk, Italy) and I would also like the write a little bit about my experiences. I want the book’s audience to be directed towards my friends and family. It would be a really great book for me to show my future children and grand-children, therefore, I would really like to add a small description of the location, the history, the food, etc. I’m not sure of the contents as of right now, but I would like to talk about the places and add my own experiencse in it. My biggest fear is that the book will turn out to look like a scrapbook. I would say… it will be like a scrapbook but I don’t want it to look childish or hand-made crafty type of scrapbook. I want it to look sophisticated and timeless.

Around the World: Book of Street Fashion
This is a doublefold stab stitched book. I found the images from a street fashion blog site that posts/blogs about the fashion of everyday people roaming the streets of NYC, Paris, Florence, Italy, London, etc. I picked out about 15+ images for my book. The pictures I picked out were mainly influenced by the colors of the image. I wanted images that were really sharp, vivid and rich in color. I tried to pick jewel toned colors such as purple and blue hues. I think the overall outcome of the picture book is pretty good. I also like the orange color I picked out as the overall background color of the book, I think it goes pretty well with the images without over powering the main focus of each image. The most difficult part of this project was trying to find highly pixelated images because most images online are compressed.

I used an old Urban Outfitters catalog for this homework. The pages inside are basically pictures of the models wearing the clothes and accessories. However, to make it more abstract, I cut out odd shapes on the first page which then reveals the picture on the second page (as shown in picture number two) therefore, making the second pages the primary focus of the whole book. I decided to do this because I wanted to change up the catalog a little bit, while adding some abstract contents to the book as well. I picked this catalog because it was the only catalog I could find in my house. I used regular black sewing thread for the binding. I also used the stab sewn binding method. I think sewing thread is too thin for book binding, so next time I will not be using sewing thread for other future book binding projects.

My general impression of the artist’s books was that they were very artsy and unique, not the typical books that you would fine at Barnes and Noble. I enjoyed looking through the books, especially the artwork and contents in the books. I would say that majority of the books are usually glue bound. I went on the last day of the fair, so it was quite packed. I was actually pretty surprise at the mix of people that attended the book fair. The books were all very different. Some were comic book styled and I spotted a few Japanese anime books as well. Overall, I enjoyed my visit very much.
- “Fuck Friends” by Leo Fitzpatrick. $30.00. Glue bound. Soft cover. Printed. I like this book because of the cover. The cover contained pictures of Charlie Brown. The images are printed, however, the printed effect on the images were like as if it was manually stamped on. It was not until I took a closer look when I realized that it was printed and not stamped. Also, what initially drew me to this book was the title. I would say it’s pretty “out there” and “catchy.”
- “The fish & the Monkey” by Marian Run. Staple bound. Printed. Slip Cover. Letterpress printed using photopolymer plates. The book is about a monkey and a fish. I liked this book because it reminded me of books that I would read back when I was in elementary school. In the book, the monkey and the fish talk and interact with to each other. I would assume that this is a children’s book.
- “Singles going Steady” by King Joe. $20.00. Presspop gallery. Glue Bound. I like this book because it’s very colorful. The pictures inside were colorful drawings of record covers. Every page was very vibrant and it contained funny artwork as well.
- “Monster Men Bureiko Lullaby” by Takashi Nemoto. $20.00. Publication: Picture box. The cover is glossy. Glue bound. This book is a Japanese comic book. It also opens the opposite way of how western society opens a book. The 1st page starts at the back of the book and works its way up to the front. I like this book because it had all Japanese images and words. I have no idea what the comic book is about but it was full of drawings and dialogues all over. Visually, the book is very “busy.” Not a single blank space in any of the pages.
- “For the love of Vinyl- the album art of hipgnosis” by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell. Glue bound. Hard Cover. Publication: Picture box. $45.00. I love the cover of this book because it is made to look like a vinyl record. The book contains images of characters with their record players. I also like the picture on the cover. It is a picture of a very handsome and well dressed man biting into a vinyl record.
- “Disco Fever” by Luke Ramsey and Andrew Meyer. Staple bound. Publication: Island fold. This my favorite book of the ones I chose. The cover says “Disco Fever”, however, the first page of the book says “Discourse” once you pull on the tab in the front. It’s almost like a birthday card because it’s very interactive. Some of the pages open up and some have cut outs where you can open it like a door. The book is full of surprises. Very enjoyable to look through.

- A book with only Black and white photos. Particularly, photos of NYC.
- Using and being more crafty with book binding. For example, using beads, different variations of thread to bind books.
- Japanese style binding
- Magazine style publications. Mostly book style publications like fashion magazines because I’m interested in Fashion.
- Accordian style book
- An odd shaped book style like circular, triangular, shape of a shoe or item etc
- Use materials in the book such as tissue paper or pop-up items
- Brochure styles
- Scrapbook with personal pictures

- Me good, Me Bad. By Annie Poon. Cost $6. It’s a little booklet with two staples on the binding. What drew me to this book was because of the “comic” like quality of the drawings. I also thought the title was interesting.
- Dates. By Lores Vanelslande. Cost $50. Medium sized book. Designed like a script or manuscript. Only words on the cover are “Dates.” Binding has no words on it. What drew me to this book was the plain script book design. Inside is just drawings but the paper looks like it’s from a copy machine.
- Les petites histories terrorists. By Micah Lexier. Cost $22. Small book, almost like planner size. Stapled binding. What drew me to this book were the French words. However, when I opened the book it was all blank pages with the exception of two pages. I found the book to be quite intriguing.
- Between the two. By Helen Douglas. WeProductions. Glue bindings. What I liked about this book was the velvet material the cover was made out of. No title on the outside, just plain red velvet. Inside contained black and white pictures and some occasional tissue paper to add some effect to the drawings.
- Clinkscale. By Helen Douglas. WeProductions. Cost $24. The bindings were accordion style which was the reason it attracted me to this book. I also liked the piano on the cover.
- Foreign Affairs: Conflicts in the Global Village. By Geno Rodriguez. Alternative Museum. Cost $12. The book is glue bound. What attracted me to this book was the picture on the front cover. It was very enticing because it was a picture of a child holding a gun and perhaps protecting his little sister. The location of the picture is presumably from a third world country. The pictures inside are all black and white.
