So far it is only when the show is paused and only for clients with certain subscription packages, but how long before they place ads when your fast forwarding through a show? Or they dont let you fast forward through certain ads at all.

- relevant
- respect
- recipient control

you want a refined list so that the people you do email are interested in the product or service and will read the email…. you want the message tailored to the consumer

advantages of email marketing
- it can be developed quickly
- distribution is controlled by the marketer
- its measureable
- inexpensive
- content is flexible- video, html, rich media

information product- self contained and just sells information (email list)

info-related product- ex. on-star… go to the tide website to find out about the product

opt-out
opt-in
confirm opt-in
double opt-in

marketing research
why people do what they do
online surveys, focus groups
quicker, cheaper with greater reach (international)

SEM, search engine marketing is the term used in this chapter to cover all the activities of organic and paid search marketing. SEP, search engine positioning, is used by some suppliers to mean the same thing. Only SEO, search engine optimization, focuses solely on the search-engine-friendly construction of Web pages.

The google brand. google is different because of their use of paid search and organic search.

query- search word typed in

its important to put key words into the title bar and throughout the website… use the key words that searchers would use. this lets the spiders find your page easier and to rank it higher.

spiders constantly update the search index

paid searches- the search engine constantly weighs ads based on click-through rates and the amount you bid… ads toward the top have the highest bid and click through- maximize profit.

steps to search success
organic and paid are the same- depends on key words on the title bar and on the page

1- get seen- make sure pages are in the search index

2- get ranked- use keywords, title and description are relevant

3- get clicked

organic search process- its free… but a bad website is expensive to redisgn

1- get page in the search engine- speciality engines or local ones
see how your preventing pages from getting into the search indez- flash cant be read by spiders
create a site map… this creates a spider path

choose keywords and landing pages
think of key words people use
- either to buy a product or solve a problem
learn context- explains how to solve a problem, solution is your product
“too hot”- ambigious, matches alot of words or too broad words
“too cold”- no one searches

brainstorm key words- site search facility, look at comperitors, use search tools- keyword tools

choose a landing page- where does the searcher land on when they click the link- optimize the landing page

google analytics- shows you the metrics of your site
