The Schwartz Communication Institute’s annual Symposium offers educators and business professionals a valuable opportunity to engage in an ongoing dialogue on teaching learning, and clear and effective communication in a variety of modes including speech, writing and digital storytelling. Our program will feature round-table discussions led by co-moderators — a business executive and an educator — and workshops and small discussion groups on several sub-topics related to writing, speaking and digital communication in education and business. These will include social media, new modes of business and scholarly communication, generational differences, and differing perspectives on teaching and learning in the worlds of business and the academy.
The Program will begin at 9:30 a.m. with welcoming remarks by Schwartz Institute Director, Mikhail Gershovich and Baruch College President Mitchel B. Wallerstein followed by the opening keynote by Catherine Mathis. The round-table discussion will begin at 11:00 a.m. At 2:15 and following lunch, Barbara Ganley and Alan Levine will lead a storytelling workshop. At 3:15 p.m., Suresh Canagarajah will deliver the 2nd keynote.
After the program, please plan to join us for cocktails and dinner at the Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) and a Conversation with Bernard L. Schwartz, with Leigh Gallagher of Fortune magazine.
You are welcome to invite a guest to the dinner if you wish, but please let us know in advance if you plan to do so. Space is limited. Click here to view the full agenda.
The symposium will take place on the 14th Floor Conference Center in Baruch’s Vertical Campus Building at 55 Lexington Ave. (enter at the corner of 24th St. and Lexington Ave. or at 25th St. between Lexington and 3rd Ave.).
