Our presentation briefly touches upon the pros and cons of SOPA and what the bill means for the internet going forward. We put the presentation together using PowerPoint 2010, which allowed us to add voice narrations to the slides. Luckily PowerPoint 2010 also has a built in feature that allows you to convert the slideshow to a video format, which made it much easier for us to upload the presentation to YouTube.
I’m not entirely sure about how I feel about SOPA after watching this video. I’ve always thought that it doesn’t have any pros. All I used to know is that they will shut down websites, but I never really knew which ones. I actually like the fact that everyone would have to download their music from iTunes and the other things that you have mentioned.
Great presentation, nd I like how you used advanced features of PowerPoint 2010 that many people are unaware of. This presentation had some really interesting points and before I watched your presentation I honestly didn’t know a lot about SOPA and I thought I did. I can now understand where they are coming from when it comes to dangers consumers face and the people who did the work not going paid. Though I think the cons still out weigh the pros for this issue and because we live in a country of free speech how could they deprive us of that over the Internet.
Great job and topic! There have been so many recent buzz about SOPA and not much people really know what it is or about. You guys did a great job in describing and providing details on this topic. I for one, really did not know much about SOPA except for the shutting down of particular sites. I believe this should not be passed. Internet is where we search for everything and if site starts to get shut down and banned, how else are we going to be connected? I also like how you guys use common examples for us to get a better understanding.
I think this is a great topic, as well as a great presentation. SOPA is an important issue that, in my opinion, will only continue to be more and more important in years to come. I definitely do not agree what SOPA has turned into and what it currently represents. If it – or anything like it – is approved, it will completely change the internet as we know it. The internet has turned into such a useful tool for promoting free speech, creativity, and user-driven content. With SOPA in place, it will no longer represent any of those things. With all of that being said, still, I am definitely not surprised that this was even proposed. Lawmakers and anyone involved with politics are constantly looking to change things up and to change the way in which our government regulates. Many of their proposals are beneficial and help a number of people, yet many of them are also outrageous, as seen here.
I personally never agreed with SOPA, I mean sure the government is trying to better the internet but should they be really dealing with this issue when they should helping our economy. This isn’t the first time that the government has tried this, with a different bill(which is now also a thing within SOPA) making it illegal to post videos from games or anything since you the user/consumer does not have the right to post videos up. Only the game developer/publisher would be allowed to upload it. This seems to me like they are spending too much time not paying attention to the real problem.
Along with how video games are not the reason for violence in kids today. Sure you may think “oh we have the whole rating system,” but it’s never truly enforced. Television, movies, social situations are just as violent and before video games kids were still exposed to violence. just my 2 cents
Great presentation!! The topic was interesting yet very complicated, and I learned a lot from it. First of all, I thought SOPA was only going to affect me, as in downloading and watching shows online. I was shocked to hear about fake virus and medications, which do/can affect me.
Its very interesting to see who is against and who is for SOPA. There are obviously very strong players in, but I don’t see Facebook and Google losing or not having some influence for regulations on the internet. There are definite reasons why I may be for SOPA, but as of now I am not. There needs to be a balance, where both parties give in and win a little. Like censoring internet? NO THANK YOU! This topic is very important and it should be more aware!
GREAT JOB! This is a very important topic as SOPA is becoming a major issue especially for the net. SOPA has already been in affect as you can see more and more sites distributing and sharing music, software are being shut down. There are many benefits for SOPA as the sites that are being shut down to contain many viruses and spyware. This can help the not so savvy internet user from viruses and other malware. As long as SOPA doesn’t censor great amounts of the web, then I am totally for it. I feel like even if this is fully regulated, there will always be a site to pirate music, videos, movies, and a way to get around the censorship. The internet can never be fully censored.
