Friday January 31st: Poe’s short story “The Balloon Hoax” looked like it was a real story and so, many thought it was a true story. How do you think that happened? Read the story and discuss the reasons why so many thought it was a true story. Give specific evidence (details from the text) to persuade the reader.
Friday February 7th: Respond to the following argument made by many readers: In his short story “The Land Ironclads,” H.G. Wells was able to predict the invention of the first military tank and at the same time, he predicted the ethical problems that went along with such an invention. Where is the evidence to support this claim? Why is it important? (500 word minimum)
Friday February 14th: What are the ethical problems to consider in the story “Directed Energy”? (500 word minimum)
Friday February 21st: No Friday Question this week. Work on improving your final draft of essay #1.
Friday February 28th: What are some of the important reasons why the narrator should have turned Joe the Logic “off” in the short story “A Logic Named Joe”? (500 word minimum)
Friday March 7th: Watch this TED Talk: School’s Kill Creativity by Sir Ken Robinson First summarize his key points. Secondly, agree or disagree with his argument. (500 word minimum)
