I've 2 daughters who lived at your house, got aspect time jobs that gave them a no cost training course in "work ethic" [not taught in any ivy league college], went to community school for your 1st 2 several years and ended up graduating from major universities with NO DEBT. 1 is an RN at a major medical center, the other is usually a special education educator. I know, naturally, each individual case is diverse nevertheless it looks like there are loads of youthful baristas at Star Bucks with degrees that mom and dad sacrificed for.

Lily,

Your story is very inspiring in that you were thrust into an unfamiliar, new environment, especially at a young age. I'm sure the adjustment process has helped solidify a strong work ethic and commitment to success that will help guide you through your next four years. I wonder, then, what your current career outlook is? It'd be interesting to hear what career you are thinking of pursuing and why. I'm glad you have a sister here at Baruch and, to reinforce her advice, I would definitely recommend joining a club. I bet you'll find a ton of interesting people, some of whom will have stories not too different from yours. Keep up the good work, Lily!
