The next case club session on Tuesday, December 3 at 12:50 PM in room 10 – 145 Professor Katowitz of the Law Department will discuss the nexus between several United States constitutional concepts and the world of business.  As we’ve discussed in several other situations, including how legal due diligence is critical to a transaction, in this session we will see how other legal concepts can impact a business.

Attached are several scenarios which will be discussed by Prof. Katowitz.  Please distribute this to the case club members.  Since each of these scenarios is based off of real fact patterns reading about the underlying cases involved will be very helpful to those attending the session.  The easiest way to do this is to go to Wikipedia and search for the particular cases.  In this way that participants attending the session will have an understanding of the background of the scenarios in question.  The following cases should be reviewed in Wikipedia by putting the case names in the search field:

Cohen v. California and Morse v. Fredrick which are First Amendment cases

Terry v. Ohio is a Fourth amendment case which deals with stop and frisk

Brewer v. Williams is an interesting (and scary) case about a murderer making statements to a very clever detective.
