The song “Dance with my Father” is by Luther Vandross and is about how all he wishes is to dance with his father again. This is unlike my previous song “If I Had a Hammer” because this song doesn’t have to do with keeping out danger and bringing peace. This song is just simply about a man who wishes to have the freedom of sharing one dance and more memories with his father. This song demonstrates how present-day society cares mostly about sharing time with family and that is all the freedom that they want and have, people no longer dream for world peace, but quality time with family members instead.

I personally love this song! I think this song does plays a role in today’s society relative to the 1960′s because everybody cares for their family. When a loved one dies, we will always give up anything to get them back. I think that the elements of being catchy and has the message of family in it are drawn from the 1960′s. I think the new element is the different style of singing.
I think the role of this song would be similar if produced in the 1960′s. Every normal human being unconditionally loves their family and this song would apply to the present and past. I think this song is made up of different elements than 1960′s songs.
I think that this song pertains closely with those of the 1960s because it is about the love for family. As for any theme or genre in lyrics, family is one that can be expressed similarly. Therefore this song shares some of the same roots and messages as if it were created in the 1960s.
