The author of this poster was trying to emphasize the importance of American citizens to the war effort. He uses the image of a solider praying his equipment works. The author directly connects the quality of the equipment soldiers use to the American people. His perspective is that the American people are vital to keeping the soldiers alive, by giving them the equipment they need to survive. The objective of this poster is to make Americans feel like they have an important part in the war. The captions make it seem like Americans are the cause for either life or death of American soldiers. This poster promotes support of the war.
This poster definitely shows World War II as a good cause for America because without the support of Americans, there won’t be enough backup for other soldiers that are fighting in the war. It gives the person viewing this poster a sense of pride and patriotism in which they would want to save as many people’s lives as possible.
This is definitely a pro-war poster. The author’s purpose in this is to tell the American public that his life is literally in the hands of the American people. The goods that Americans make are what he is going to be using on the battlefield. There’s a direct link between both parties that is fair and respectful in its treatment to both parties. Though the Axis forces are not shown we can assume that the trooper is fighting the good fight and that Americans must do all that they can on the home front to help him in any way possible. Making quality equipment is one of them.
This piece of propaganda is particularly aggressive in that it pins faulty or lazy industrial production to the death of soldiers on the front. The message running through most WW2 propaganda is that were all in it together, but it seems harsh to make workers who have had a bad day / made a few mistakes feel responsible for the death of one of their fellow Americans at the front.
