New Inventions

The footage from the video was produced in the 1920s. It is a compilation of the wacky inventions that were created in the 1920s. Even though this is a video on the crazy inventions a lot of the inventions were actually useful. Inventions such as the washing machine and the vacuum cleaner were created. This represents a period of time where Americans wanted to enjoy their lives and take advantage of the country that was flourishing at the time.

In my opinion this video is a fairly true depiction of inventions at the time as well as the continued advances being made. It shows how modern day inventions, such as the washing machine and television looked back then. It gives viewers examples of modern day inventions and how much their appearances and quality have changed over time. The video also represents the general public at the time and the changes that people themselves were experiencing. People were beginning to enjoy their lives instead of just getting by and working 24/7. They began to enjoy their leisure time and started having fun. The video shows people enjoying and having fun with the new inventions of the time. Besides this video, books about this period of American history, as well as more specifically books on inventions over time would be good sources to cross-check the accuracy of the video.

  2. a) How effective is the video in capturing the essence of the historical change depicted? b) What other sources could be used to cross-check the accuracy of the video in representing this change?

This video is one of the best videos posted on the blog, in my opinion, in capturing the essence of change during the 20′s. In the video, you can see things such as helicopters and “fast” cars being built, which shows the improvement in travel. Things like television and portable radio made it fun to be home and listen to the radio or watch TV as a family. Basically, inventions were made to be used leisurely (for fun) as opposed to how they were used in the past. A good source to check the accuracy of the video would be an encyclopedia or some sort of book regarding American History or more specific, America during the 1920′s.

  3. Hello, have you previously thought about to publish about Nintendo 3DS?
