As going green and environmental consciousness continue to be the growing global focus local governments in the US are launching initiatives of their own. An example of a pilot program that has been expanded throughout a state and is considered a success is the California E-recycling stations. This “Ecollective is powered by ECS Refining, an electronics recycler renowned for its environmental ethics and responsible recycling methods.” The program has been growing so rapidly that the company has recently announced its expansion into another larger facility. The goal of this initiative is to provide relatively close access to an E recycling station to all California Residents with the assumption that easy access will mean higher utilization. As of today 83% of residents are within 10 miles of a station and volume is increasing. The success of the program is being attributed to the proximity of these stations and to the assurance that all personal informational will be erased, all recycling will be done within the US and that the highest environmental standards will be applied. With the acclaim this program is getting it is likely that other states will implement their own version of this program.
