“what sitting will not solve, travel will resolve”

One of the themes in the Epic of Son Jara can be seen in that phrase and it appears in Episode 3 and reappears in Episode 5. We have seen Son Jara surpass his obstacles. He’s still respects his brother no matter how rude he is to him. This phrase means that for every problem we have there is always a solution to it. So we must be patient and be optimistic about it. Just think that these problems are just challenges to make us stronger and a better person.

Also, I just don’t like the character of Magan Jata Konde. He has no right to insult his aunt. She may have not had children but it doesn’t mean that she can’t be a good mother. The fact that she took care of him when he was a child, he should be thankful to her instead.

Obsession can be bad sometimes

Obsession can sometimes lead us to unwanted behavior. As the saying goes, “too much of anything can kill you”. In the play, Sakuntala and King Dusyanta clearly desire for one another. They are so possessed with each other that they forget everything that is happening around them. When you love someone, you have to keep something for yourself too. Don’t let love rule over your principles in life. It is good to have balance of both. Similarly when it comes to studies and friends, although we prioritize our education over friends, it is good to have a social life too. So it is better to be in between. No more, no less. Being balanced makes it is easier for us to adapt to the uncertainties that life throws us. Sakantula surpasses all the obstacles she has been through. With that being said, her character is inspirational. Indeed, “Love conquers all”.

Sakuntala – you kings are in all cases to be credited implicitly; you perfectly know the respect which is due to virtue and to mankind; while females, however modest, however virtuous, know nothing, and speak nothing truly. In a happy hour I came hither to seek the object of my affection : in a happy moment I received the hand of a prince descended from Puru ; a prince who had won my confidence by the honey of his words, whilst his heart concealed the weapon that was to pierce mine.

this is my favorite line from the story.. bc boys are douchebags!! and sakuntala is a badass :)  this shows how sexist the world is.

Writing about Odysseus

While i was writing my essay, I realized that there are so many was to close read a sentence.
I put 5 quotes from the book and By the time i finished three of the quotes I almost up to filling up my
thrid page which was amazing. Close text analysis was pretty fun. I get to think of a sentence in
different perspectives. I hope everybody is doing well. I personally liked the part where Odysseus and
Cyclops was arguing back and forth. It just reminded me dumb and dumber. haha

Class connections

I was reading fairytales in my ENG2150 class and we were on the theme of how daughters have a special relationship with their fathers. In our discussion, the Odyssey came up and we compared the fairytales to the Odyssey. We spoke of the epic tale of Odysseus marrying his mother and killing his father issue as well as Freud and the Freudian slip. Coincidentally, this Freudian slip appeared once again in my introductory Psychology class and I thought how cool it was that everything was all connected! A Freudian slip occurs when you say something by mistake when you intend to say something else that you were thinking about in your unconscious mind. And then consciousness and memory lessons from Psychology ties in with karma in Sakuntala.

Does anyone else notice the connection with all your other classes? The most popular one, of course, is the discussion of ethics in every single classroom!

Sekuntala and Dushyanta-

I think Sekuntala and Dushyanta did not deserved such a severe punishment.

They both lost their heads for each other and forgot about anything else,

their got blinded by love,

but in my opinion penelty for that was to severe,

S and D atoned for it for eight years, its far to much.

Off Topic: Free Movie Tickets

To continue our cheap NY things discussion in class, here is a site where you can go to movies FOR FREE, most of the time before they come out in theaters. One time I went and one of the actors from the movie was there. Here’s the site.

 http://nycmoviescreenings.com/

Here’s how it works. You sign up for a movie and they give you a time when you want to go. Then you check your email to see if you’re lucky enough to get the spot. Trust me, you’ll get the emails a lot! If you do, get to the theater relatively early because sometimes people print the pass multiple times and the theaters are overbooked. Sometimes there’s a little line. Thats about it! Good luck everyone.

OH ALSO! Sometimes, even if you didn’t get the email, if you show up and they have room, you can watch it anyway.

Sakuntala and the King

This was a great love story. A lot of the movies and dramas that I have seen are very similar to this story. I can see where they got their base story from. However, there was one thing I have to say about the story, and that is there wasn’t a villain. I think that the only villain was themselves because they kind of put themselve in that position to be curse. If Sakuntala wasn’t so distracted she wouldn’t have been curse and she would have eventually reunite with her love. And because she being selfish and thought about herself at this time she was therefore punished. But in the end they all still lived happily ever after and I guess that is all that matters in a love story, a happy ending.

Like a gift of love

Your rose and petals are the fingers

Holding up my heart

You’re the light on my candle
The golden apple of my eye.
A timeless love affair

And an open heart that cares

An element of my moments
The soft kiss on the fingertips
To say I cherish you.

In the direction of your lips

And her heart is where the stem of.

love is, I truly have but one desire

Of eternal hearts touching

The only real gem

The sky entwined.
