I wen to an art workshop last Tuseday, 11/17/2009. The name of that workshop is Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective Exhibition. That workshop located on the 22nd street. When I arrived there, there were a lot of people. Each visit was only fifteen minutes. I saw many beautiful paintings in there and they all had their own styles. A professor told the differences and styles of each paintings. I listened to her carefully and I learned something new from that worshop. I enjoyed visiting the artworks and I thought that professor was helpful. I went there once before with my English class, but the artworks were different to the last time. However, I think that is good for updating the new artworks.
My third workshop
I went to the Database Survival on 10/15/2009. The location of the workshop was on the second floor of the library. That workshop taught us how to use our library website to do research. My library science professor talked about that before, but I think it was useful for everyone. It is very easy use the databases from our library website and all the databases are free for baruch stsudents. Although I knew about that before, I still paid attention to listen what did the professor to say. There were many people and someone didn’t have chairs to sit. Some of them stood and some of them just sat on the floor. I was lucky that I had a seat. That workshop just was about an half hour, but people could learn some important things from it.

The ending of the semester
I feel that the ending of the semester is approaching and I feel; happy and sad at the same time. I have had a great time at Baruch my first semester, I met some cool people. However, the work is overwhelming, but since the first day of college I have become used to the college life. The only obstacle that stands in my way is my long and boring commute.

MOMA!!!!
For our art history class, we were suppose to go to the Museum of Modern Art on thursday. However I had some other things to do, therefore I went on Monday. The museum wasn’t as bad as I thought. I thought it was actually even better than the one we went before because it had sliding doors. The whole museum felt really modernized. It was really great. In the shops there are even tokidoki, kidrobot, and muji items, which were fasinating. Who knew a museum would have these kind of awesome things.

Good teacher or good schedule?
So I have made my schedule for the next semester and I expected it to be much better. Unfortunately there is an ultimatum everone has to face good teachers or good schedule. It is much harder to make your own schedule than I thought, and some classes have ridiculosuly inconvenient times.

MoMA
So this Thursday’s art history class took place at the MoMA. I was excited to go because the professor said that there would be artworks that looked cool and something that everyone would be interested in. I first went to the architecture section and I saw really cool furniture and weird inventions. I wanted to do my paper on one of them, but none of them had much to write about. I decided to look at paintings even though I found them boring, but they might have a lot to write about. I went to this section in the museum with artworks that had very little going on. I remember there were a couple of artworks that were just plain white and I didn’t understand why they were considered art. I mean, I could have just hung a blank canvas on a wall and call that art. However, there was this one painting that was completely black and I got really confused because there was absolutely nothing going on there. I read the description for it and turns out the artist used different types of black paint, and he painted the corners black with a subtle hint of red, and the middle with blue and green. It took me a while to finally see it, but when I did I was super amazed. I decided to do my paper on minimal artworks because even though there might not be anything there, the way people interpret it is very different, and that makes the painting interesting.

Art Gallery Workshop
The art workshop I went to was an exhibition entitled, “Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective”. It was basically a gallery filled with modern art paintings. The paintings were very colorful and eye-catching, but I didn’t understand them. The tour guide explained that there were hidden images within the painting that would be noticeable if analyzed carefully. There was one painting with vibrant colors drawn in random places and didn’t look like anything recognizable, but she explained that if I looked carefully, I would be able to see tables and fruits. It was an interesting approach to interpret it and I guess I learned to understand modern art better.

calculus
So, yeah. I don’t know about you guys but I’m pretty sure I did really bad on that calculus test. We organized a study group, but we didn’t get as much done as we could have because a lot of problems confused every single one of us. A few of us proposed regular study groups to review topics before we get lost studying the day before a test. How does that sound?
