This workshop was very straight forward. The speaker walked us through a basic interview and advised us on how to succeed. I think that, by far, I have learned the most from this workshop. I learned a lot of new tips and strategies that I will absolutely need in the near future. Everything was easy to follow and all of the examples we heard can be used in order to increase our chances of getting a job. Overall, the workshop was great and informative.
Child Trafficking Coffeehouse
I attending the child trafficking coffeehouse hosted by intervarsity christian fellowship on Tuesday. It really opened my eyes to how lucky we have it. These kids are being forced to do manual labor at such a young age and are the girls are forced to have sexual relations with older men. These girls are being forced to do this by Pimps. Its crazy to think how well we have while these things are going on in the world today.

Team Baruch Open House
I attended the team baruch open house a couple of weeks ago. I found it to be a very interesting open house. Team Baruch is basically like our freshman seminar program. It helps incoming freshmen get a grip on there first semester of college. They also take care of orientation…as in helping the students acclimate to the new experience. Team Baruch has very strict regulations however. You have to keep your GPA at a certain level to stay a member. As much as i would like to help incoming freshman…i feel it is best for me to not lose focus on my studies so for now i dont plan on joining Team Baruch

Basic Interviewing Techniques
I attended the basic interviewing techniques workshop and it was very enlightening. I learned a bunch of stuff that i should not do on an interview that i never new before. For example, I learned that you should not wear cologne or perfume to an interview because the person interviewing you might not like the smell or be allergic. I also learned that you should not wear a black suit because then it seems like your attending a funeral. I also learned that you should take notes after the interview so that you can remember what they said and always look up the company before you go to an interview so you can ask questions.

Basic interviewing techniques (Career Exploration)
Just about a week ago I went to a Career Exploration workshop about basic interviewing techniques. It was interesting enough and I did learn the proper way to dress, present myself, talk, and even what to put on a resume. Truthfully I didn’t know how to prepare for employers questioning me but now at lest I have some idea of what to say. Overall it was a productive workshop that taught me a little on how to handle that awkward interviewing moment.

Basic Interviewing Technigues and The Changing Nature of Race, Power, and Ethnicity in the Era of Obama
I’ve attended the Basic Interviewing Techniques workshop on November 12, 2009 from 12:45 to 2: 00 pm. Going to this workshop helped me to fulfill the Career Exploration category. It was extremely helpful. The speaker went over the basic interviewing process and topics ranged from the formal attire to a thank you letter for a person conducting the interview. She also spoke about various qualifications and manners that guarantee success. This workshop made me realize how important it is to have a working experience, to be a leader, and to have an internship in the field I’m interested in. It was also very informative on that Baruch can provide professional attire in case you don’t have anything to wear to an interview and it offers the opportunity to set up a fake interview so that they can help you fix your flaws.
I’ve attended the Changing Nature of Race, Power, and Ethnicity in the Era of Obama workshop on October 14, 2009 from 4:00 to 5: 30 pm. Going to this workshop helped me to fulfill the Community-Global awareness category. It was interesting overall and dealt with racial topics. The speaker talked a lot about president Obama and how he’s white and black. Another lady talked about how back in the day she was in love with a white guy and how the community didn’t accept interracial relationships. This workshop made me more aware that the ethnicity of the United States is changing, as in there are more minorities born every year while the number of whites born remains relatively unchanged.

Mixed Relationships
Personal Enrichment
November 19, 2009
This workshop, I can say was the best event I attended. It pertained to the discussion of interracial relationships, affects on society, and the impact of these relationships. The speaker shared his personal experience with his fiance. Which I can say was very sentimental to me because of his triumphs. Overcoming the negativity, dealing with family, and the severity of being caught in such a riske relationship. I enjoyed the insightfrom thise who related to the issue because it opened my eyes. Being able to void myself of negative thoughts to others that choose to date outside of their race helped me understand them.

Mercedes Matter’s art gallery (arts at baruch)
A while back I went an art gallery featuring the work of Mercedes Matter’s. The art itself were mostly abstracts of tables with food and other amorphous blobs that reminded me of food which I did enjoyed. Although I still don’t understand why triangles were in each of her paintings and how exactly the help the art work. However i did have to wait close to forty minutes in a room that was warm as hell which sucked.
