The Future15 Dec 2008 10:57 pm

I hope in the future that by the time I graduate the economy is doing better and it would be easier for business majors to look for jobs. I am still unsure of what I want to major in but I am almost sure that it would be somewhere in the field of business. But currently the U.S. economy and financial system aren’t doing so well so I hope that by the time I graduate I would be able to find a high paying job. I also hope to see President Obama and soon to be secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, prevail with new economic and social policies to aid the financial crisis.

I also plan to study abroad in Europe or Japan in my junior year. I hope to be able to expand my knowledge and experience a different culture. I love to travel and be able to see and meet new things.

Complaints15 Dec 2008 10:48 pm

Finals are coming up and I am feeling really tired and stressed. I just wished that there was no such thing as finals but that can’t possibly ever come true. My parents have been complaining that I stay up too late and getting early wrinkles that no 18 year old girl should have and I couldn’t agree with them more.

I also felt that the LC Block group was useless because it was a waste of time. We really didn’t do much in that class except chat and talk. And the lessons on time management and how to study were useless because it was all common knowledge. At least that is how I feel. Plus there is no credit for that class so I felt that there was no point in it. But the only thing I liked about it was that I was able to make some new friends from the LC.

Waking up 6:30 every monday and wednesday to get to school is tiring but that can’t be helped since I like being a good two shoes. Then again, I choose a similar schedule for next term because I like getting out of school early.

Like other people, I also hated Baruch’s registration system for classes. It is unfair that some students get to choose first and pick the best classes there are and some students are stuck with the leftovers. I made my schedule last minute in a panic because most classes I choose were out. As a result I had to make up a new schedule in the short of half an hour.

I felt that Senator McCain constantly attacked Obama in the third presidential debate. McCain’s attempt at trying to beat Obama by going on a full scale attackbackfired. Many people believed that he appeared rude and unpresidential compared to Barack Obama’s cool and commanding presence. McCain got angry too easily and sometimes appeared flustered and red. Obama was well organized and direct with his anwers unlike McCain. Obama also impressed the American public with his answers on health care – the issue where they saw the clearest distinction between the candidates – as well as taxes, education, and the Supreme Court. Obama was a clear victor in the debate. I felt that this debate really helped in determining the winner of the Presidential Election of 2008. As a result Obama won the Presidential race.

I am really looking forward to the future especially with this new president who promises to bring us change. I hope Obama sticks to his words and does get us out of this economic crisis and have store a better future for America. I am really looking forward to see what he will do for us, but we’re going to have to wait a bit on that. The semester has gone by really quickly and soon we’ll be going into the new year. I am really looking forward to next semester taking new classes in which I have some interest in. I’m looking forward to working really hard to achieve the goals I have set for myself. If plans go well, hopefully getting a job will not be as hard as it is it get one now.

Complaints that I have so far about my experience at Baruch was probably one of the most hectic things which was the registration process. The night before I had to register, I had noted down possible classes and pre-made schedules that I would not mind using. When it came time for me to register all the classes I had hoped to have, all of them were taken up. I panicked a bit, but had to work from scratch. It took me while to make the schedule though I’m not satisfied with the timings. I understand that there are others with higher priority to make their schedule first, but I guess its one of those things that you won’t like as a freshman. I guess the commuting part also gets tiring after a while. Other than that I feel Baruch is a nice place.

After the 2nd debate I grew less anxious to watch the 3rd debate. I did not want to see repetitive things. Turn out it was pretty much the same to me. I felt McCain was a bit clearer on some of his issues this time. Still I felt both candidates were back and forth with each other. Another thing that stood out to me was how “Joe the plumber” kept getting brought up. I think Obama had done better in his previous debates though. I also find the SNL skits on the presidential election to be extremely entertaining and funny. It is well done and gets us more involved with politics in a more amusing way.

After the first debate I was really looking forward to watching the 2nd debate. I liked the set up of the 2nd debate. The candidates replied with similar answers to the 1st debate. At some points it seemed to be repetitive for me. One thing that I had noticed was the actions of John McCain. I noticed how he is more tense and angry. It seems his main goal in the debate is trying to make Obama look bad, when he should really be focusing on explaining his policies. I was shocked at first when I heard McCain refer to Obama as “that one” when they were discussing energy. Obama I feel is more focused in on the debates he is calm and doesn’t usually have any facial expressions that may get one to think twice about him. He seems to elaborate more on his economic plans than McCain, which I believe should be main focus right now.

I was really excited to see the first Presidential debate between both Obama and McCain. This is the first presidential race that I have actually been following. Either we can have the first black president in history or a female for vice president. To me, Obama seems to be the more presentable candidate. The way he speaks and his clean look, I believe are what edges him over McCain. In the first debate, the beginning was kind of neutral. I did not know who was winning. I felt both candidates were not completely answering the questions there were asked. Somehow they incorporate another topic and start talking about that. I felt that most of the time McCain focused on pointing out the flaws in Obama and Obama had to counter that setting the debate off to answering the questions they were asked. I enjoyed this first debate and believe Obama had the slight edge in this debate.

Hello, my name is Anojan Rudra. At first sight you may assume that I am Indian, but really I am Sri Lankan. I was born here in New York and grew up in Flushing, Queens. I went to Francis Lewis High School where I had many good memories, for one being that it is one of the most overcrowded schools in New York. Baruch College was only 1 of the 2 colleges I applied too. I didn’t want to go to far from my home therefore my mind was always set on coming here. I am not really sure what I plan to major in. As of now I really enjoy math, might minor in that and major in finance. In my spare time I love to dance. I am on a bollywood fusion team called Wanted Ashiqz along with Ahilan. It’s a really great experience and I love to perform on stage. That’s pretty much a all I can say about myself.

I can’t believe that this semester is coming to an end. It seemed to fly by, not counting all the Jewish holidays and other days off we had. I don’t know about other colleges, but Baruch didn’t seem to hard to assimilate to. I have already joined a couple of clubs and made a bunch of new friends. My classes were all reasonable, but they technically aren’t done yet. I still have to take all the dreaded finals. Good thing for our LC, we don’t have too many of them.

I learned a lot throughout this semester, and even found an admiration for classes I never would’ve thought to take. Philosophy turned out to be my best class. I hope that I will still see everyone in the next semester and wish everyone luck. I am actually amazed at he classes everyone will have to take just to get into Zicklin, but I’m sure it will all be worth it. Hopefully the economy will turn around for all of us who are going into business.

Good luck again at your next semester!
