You win some, you lose some December 15, 2008

And so, our first college semester is drawing to a close. I must say, I’ve learned a lot about myself these past 4 months… all my procrastination issues… all my tendencies to fall asleep at the worst times…
I hope this semester was as productive to you guys as it was to me. If anything, it helped motivate me to do better in the future. How many can say they’ve shed their procrastination tendencies? How many can say they’re willing to work harder for that brighter future?!
….Let’s think about it some other time.

I don’t understand why we have a 25 meter pool in B3. Nobody uses 25 meters. Swim seasons in the United States are short course YARDS or long course METERS. Nearly all the pools in New York City are 50+ meters, or 25 yards. There are no short course meter seasons. Why then, do we have that in the building? They should have just stayed with 25 yards if they were gonna make it short course, or gone with a 50 meters and movable bulkheads. 25 meter pools exist only to aggravate swimmers by being rare. Nobody really knows how well they did compared to other pools because swimming 25 meters and then converting it to yards just isn’t the same as swimming 25 yards.
Besides that, why do some professors insist on doing nothing all semester and then piling on the papers in the last 2 weeks of class? MAKES NO SENSE.

My only complaints about Baruch is the work and the problem with the damn escalators. Well..first off there is alot of work to cover in so little time, and the problem with the escalators is that they rarely work. Im so confused i dont know which way is up or down anymore.

Tensions Between India and Pakistan December 14, 2008

Since, I’ve been seeing so many posts on complaints I thought why not something new.
As many of you may already know there was an attack in Mumbai India by terrorists.
The Indian public already started blaming Pakistan for the attack and was later proven that the Pakistan intelligence Core did have some hand in it. (Suspicions of supplying arms and training to the terrorists)
This in turn lead Pakistan and India at the brink of war as many see it, but luckily the efforts of the Prime Minister’s is cooling down tensions.
Even with the cool down in tensions, the public outcry in India is calling for the destruction of Pakistan.
Political officials of both countries are still in a tense stance, but the starting of a war is now unlikely.
Below are some links to articles related to the attacks and tensions going on:

The Future As I See It December 13, 2008

Honestly, I am not some kind of mystical scientist who can just wave his wand, calculate the inclinations of the stars, and use them to figure out the future. I do, however, see some indications that I think might yield certain results. If we were to look at politics right now, I think people shouldn’t expect Obama to just come in and make everything all right immediately. This country is currently suffering from troubles in both the economic and the international sectors, neither of which is easily resolved. I believe that we shouldn’t expect progress under Obama’s administration. If the president can simply clean up this mess, he is a hero. Furthermore, to avoid something like this from occuring in the future, I believe that all those regulations that FDR had imposed on the companies that were removed by Reagan, Clinton and Bush should be reinstated. It is clear what happens when we let companies run amuck. As for the future, I think that we should be patient. It will be a few years before we can spend without fear of what will happen tommorow, but it is all part of an economic cycle that has occured before and people got out of it that time as well.
Complaints About Things in General December 13, 2008

As of right now, I have essentially three complaints: the workload at Baruch, the unorganized final testing dates, and the current state of the video game industry. First, the workload at Baruch is one that is crushing, at least in my opinion. I know there are people out there who can do assignments very, very quickly, but I am not one of them. Then, as hard as I might try, all my work has been placed on my back right before the finals. It is absolutely detrimental to my health that I have to work so much while having to pull all-nighters for finals. Finally, video games seem to be taking a turn for the worse as the economic recession seems to be hitting that industry as well. However, as an industry that spends millions simply to revel in the concept of escaping one world and going into another with more control, I can understand why it was destined to fall.
Christmas Preparation December 13, 2008

One point of college life that I find to be more than slightly annoying is that it severely cuts into my preparation for Christmas. As I have said before I am proud of my Italian heritage and for us Christmas is a VERY big deal. Throughout my youth I was always made sure that the 3-4 weeks before Christmas was filled with family dinners and shopping in NYC. Now my weekends have been taken up with papers and studying for finals. I really want to spend my time taking in all of the fun and joy that I always experience around my favorite time of the year. I really do not want to spend December 21st studying for a Business final on the 22nd.
When I was in high school I really got to experience the buildup to Christmas. I went to a small private Catholic school so therefore Christmas was a big deal in all of my classes. It was a lot of fun and really helped me get into the spirit. I always had plenty of time to do all of my school work as well as do all of the fun things with my family. We always go to a Broadway show and out to dinner amongst many other things. This year I will still do that but I had to get more creative with my schedule which was very annoying. I will still blast Luciano Pavarotti’s O’ Holy Night in my room while I study and leave on The Santa Clause 1 and 2 all night long. This year was a very good learning experience in Christmas event management. I flat out refuse to let anything ruin my Christmas cheer, so I will make the best of this year and next year if time is not readily available I will make it. To close I hope that everyone enjoys their respective holidays and I wish all of you a happy and healthy 2009.
Escalators at Baruch December 13, 2008

One complaint that I have about being a student at Baruch is that the escalators are always broken. I feel that if the school wants to maintain a professional appearance then it should not be in a perpetual state of disrepair. I view Baruch as less of a campus than an office building. Any respectable office building that I have been in has always been in excellent shape. If there are any repairs to be made they are done after hours and rarely will they persist for several days. I really don’t mind walking up an escalator (unless it is 8:00 in the morning) but that it really beside the point. There is a principle involved.
I realize that this is a relatively minor concern but I believe that it gives the school a very negative appearance. If Braruch wants to be respected as a top school then the least that they could do is keep the escalators in working order. I would really love to discuss this with someone in charge because I believe it to be a very valid point. I would also really like if the 23rd street building was kept in better condition as well. The VC is much more appealing even if the escalators are terrible. The other building is extremely outdated and needs a major renovation. Baruch needs to keep its facilities in working order if it wants to keep its good reputation intact.
History December 12, 2008

Jack, I have to agree with you about reading the history textbook. Not only do I like reading the textbook, I also love that class. I don’t know why I know I’m so interested in it but I guess its because of the fact that learning history in college goes a lot deeper than both High School and Elementary/Middle school. Every time I’m in history class I’m anxious to learn more. One area that I find great interest are the different social programs that various presidents and political leaders propose. I like to see the different measures each person take, and also I like to learn about the circumstances under which they are proposed under.
